City Breaks

One of the most popular weekends away is to take a city break – either to your nearest state or territory capital or further afield. Australia is lucky to have a range of beautiful cities, each with their own unique attractions and vibe and booking a couple of nights getaway is a great way to get a taste of what they have to offer and sample some well-known sights along the way.

Different cities lend themselves to different kinds of holiday, so you may fancy a girls weekend in Melbourne for some serious retail therapy, a short break in the NSW capital during the Sydney Festival to catch a concert, a quick trip to Canberra with the family to visit Questacon or the National Dinosaur Museum or be looking for romantic getaways to Perth or Adelaide for wedding anniversary celebration. The choice really is as varied as the cities themselves.

If you’re having trouble deciding where to go or what to do, here are some suggestions:

Save on hotels with

Sydney, NSW

Sydney really does have the lot – a majestic harbour, famous sights, world class beaches and fabulous shopping and dining – all wrapped up in a climate that is hot in summer, blue-skied in Spring and Autumn and fairly mild in winter. In fact, the only problem that you’re likely to have is deciding what to fit in if you’re only visiting for a short break.

Melbourne Sporting Weekends

Victorian’s appear to be sport mad and this is very much reflected in Melbourne’s crammed sporting calendar. If you enjoy the races, love cricket, have a passion for AFL, play tennis or get a thrill out of Formula 1, planning short breaks in Melbourne to coincide with a sporting festival is a must.

Melbourne, Victoria

Culture, arts, sports, fine dining, groovy bars and cafes, stylish boutiques and some wonderful hotels– is there anything that Melbourne doesn’t have?! Whether you’re heading to the Victorian capital for a girl’s weekend of shopping and cocktails or a Buck’s party based around a sporting event, Melbourne has loads to keep you busy, both day and night.
